Release Notes:
What to Expect from Public Beta v3:
- TestFlight public beta v3 is version 1.1.1 (any build)
- Curved Display Support: Applying a curvature to the virtual desktop is now supported. A default value is used, and a new slider allows you to increase or decrease the curvature of the display. Any new setting will persist between runs, using what ever you set last the next time you launch Kassandra.
- Display Centering Support: A new \”Set Center\” button is displayed prominently at the top of the control window on your mac to allow you to set any current head position as the new \”center\” of your field of view.
- Noise Filtering To Dramatically Reduce Drift: A new filtering approach to eliminating measurement noise should eliminate nearly all drift and generally smooth out quality of the view rendering when you move your head. Some left-right drift will exist when you first launch the app, but the filtering works better and better the longer your session is active.
- Actual Display Refresh Rate: This version is the first that pegs the rate of device measurement updates to the actual refresh rate of the main display on your mac. It only does that upon first launch though– so if the rate changes you will have to re-launch the app to see the rate change in-app.
- Fixed UI: This update fixes the animations for zoom, horizontal, and vertical adjustments to the 3D model within the control view on your mac, and it shortens the animations of those adjustments on the virtual display
(Fun fact: I wrote this entire post while using public beta v3!)
Known Issues / Under Development:
General
- Filtering improves over time to eliminate drift, but at first you may still notice a slight drifting effect until enough filtering data is available to eliminate drift.
- Unplugging the glasses will probably cause the app to crash if virtual desktop is running
- Stopping and then re-starting the virtual display session causes crash
- Other sidebar features are still not enabled
Memory Leaks
memory usage might be rather high due to some leaks. For most testing it stabilized around 500-700 MB, but in some cases jumped to ~1.5gb. I\’m working on ID\’ing the root cause of this
Other Features Not Enabled
Everything on the sidebar is disabled in this release because I needed to focus on the core features first.
